Teeth Whitening FAQ
Is professional whitening safe? Yes. When administered by a dental professional, teeth whitening is a safe and effective way to brighten your smile!
What is the active ingredient in professional whitening products? Professional whitening products contain high concentrations of carbamide peroxide or hydrogen peroxide. While it is referred to sometimes as "bleaching", whitening products do not contain any bleach!
What are the side effects of professional whitening? Side effects of teeth whitening are temporary and reversible. Your gums may get a little irritated during treatment and there is a chance you may experience temporary mild-moderate sensitivity to hot/cold afterwards. Wicked White Pro is pH balanced and is formulated to reduce the likelihood of experiencing sensitivity!
How can I manage sensitivity caused by teeth whitening? Brushing with a toothpaste for sensitive teeth for a couple of weeks before whitening can help reduce your risk sensitivity. I can also recommend other products that help prevent/manage this side effect! Pro tip: if you're teeth are super sensitive to begin with, whitening them (with over the counter or professional products) will make them even more sensitive!!
Are results guaranteed? Results are expected, but not guaranteed. Teeth that are a darker shade to begin with may require longer treatment time to achieve desired results. Check out before and after photos here!
How long will my teeth stay lighter for? This varies from person to person. Teeth naturally lose their brightness over time due to age, diet and habits. You can use an at home product to maintain the brightness or visit the Studio for a "boost" a couple of times a year!
If I want to whiten my teeth for a special occasion, how close to the event should I schedule an appointment? You can actually start whitening a good while before the big day! Some clients opt to whiten immediately and then book a touch up appointment (boost) closer to the day of. If you have a special event coming up, I recommend brighter about 2 weeks before hand!
How do I know if I am a candidate for professional whitening? An oral health assessment is provided before treatment, but you may be a candidate if you:
○ have healthy teeth and gums
○ aren’t breast feeding or pregnant (sorry mamas!)
○ don’t have fillings, crowns or veneers on front teeth (only natural teeth will change color)
○ are finished growing (we usually recommend waiting until 16 years of age before brightening)
**Teeth that have had a root canal treatment can be difficult to lighten
